William Northey Appointed Connections President and Chief Executive Officer
Wilmington, DE—Connections Community Support Programs, Inc. announced that the organization’s COO, William Northey, PhD, has been appointed to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Northey has been serving the organization in that role on an interim basis since Founder and former CEO, Catherine Devaney McKay, announced her retirement in October of last year.
Northey will continue providing day-to-day leadership of Connections, retaining the title of COO and will also serve on the Board of Directors. Northey has served in various roles at Connections since 2005, championing clinical innovation, data analytics and informatics, and competency development. Most recently, he has worked with the Leadership Team at Connections to operate efficiently at scale and to improve the delivery of valuable behavioral health care to the citizens of Delaware.
“I am incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished in such a short time especially with the challenges that the pandemic has created,” said Northey. “The entire organization has stepped up to ensure both the physical safety of our clients while providing the behavioral health services they need throughout the state.”

Bill is a seasoned leader, a consensus builder and is respected within and outside of the organization. I believe he is the leader that will further the organization’s mission and vision, which is improving the lives and communities of Delawareans.”
In the decades prior to becoming the COO at Connections, Dr. Northey, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, served in a number of academic and research positions, including faculty appointments as Drexel, Wilmington, Northcentral, Bowling Green State, Amridge and George Washington Universities, and directed the research programs at the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and the Philadelphia Child and Family Therapy Training Center. Northey is active in in training family therapists and supervisors around the world, including the Czech Republic, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Panama, Portugal, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Argentina, the Netherlands, and throughout the United States. “When I left Delaware in 1988 to pursue my graduate studies, I could never have imagined that I would come back to Delaware and be given the privilege to be the CEO of Connections in the state I call home,” Northey said. “I am grateful to all of the people who have worked so hard to make Connections what it is over the last 3 decades, especially Cathy. I am excited to be given the opportunity to advance the mission of Connections and provide the highest quality services to the citizens and families of Delaware.”
