Connections’ Promoting Safe and Stable Families (PSSF) program at our Seaford location is a free, federally funded support and preservation program for families who are at-risk or in crisis.
PSSF focuses on strengthening and stabilizing families and promoting child safety. It empowers families to gain a better understanding of their concerns through an interview and self-assessment process. Families learn to identify support systems and develop action plans to reach their goals. PSSF promotes positive father involvement, healthy adult relationships and effective co-parenting.
The program helps families by enhancing coping and problem solving skills to reduce family stress and crisis, increase networks of support and connect families to services and resources. PSSF also helps to improve child and adult relationships, reduce family isolation and increase knowledge of resources. Families learn a different way of planning so when a crisis occurs the family will be able to solve their problem/concern by using their new or enhanced skill set.
To participate, an adult family member can contact the Connections’ family consultant and schedule and an appointment that is convenient for the family.
With the assistance of the family consultant, he or she identifies resources to help meet the needs to resolve the concern, then sets a few short-term goals that can be achieved within two months.
The family could be eligible for financial incentive over the program period and will receive financial incentive upon completion.
